Penacillamine is a chelator type of drug. This medication may be used to treat Wilsons disease by binding with excess copper and eliminating it through the urine. Penacillamine may also be used to treat mercury poising and as an immunosuppressant therapy for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Pencillamine is a compounded, prescription medication. Penicillamine capsules expire 1 year after they are compounded.
