Description

Slippery elm is an herbal remedy used most frequently in dogs and cats experiencing gastrointestinal difficulties and as an external healing agent for wounds and skin abrasions. It is most commonly available in powdered form and derives its name from the slippery gel it forms when it comes in contact with water. The natural lubricant in slippery elm makes it an ideal remedy for constipation, especially in cats. It coats and quiets the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal system and works especially well on colitis and inflammatory bowel disease. High in fiber, slippery elm works to normalize digestive functions, relieving nausea and vomiting and both constipation and diarrhea. Slippery Elm Bark is believed to raise calcium levels in some patients.

wonderful for IBS & constipation

Now that his kidney disease has worsened I continue to give him the slippery elm to help with the excess acid that can be produced as well as keeping him regular. Rather than mixing it with his food now I mix some with warm water to make a sludgy slurry and use a syringe (no needle of course) to administer it morning and evening an hour after he's had his Pepcid (Famotidine) and Renal K Gel. I wouldn't be without this product in my home for pets and people- and this price can't be beat. I've paid almost $25 for this amount at other places. This is a super deal for a super product!

helps dog with IBS

I have been using slippery elm bark for my Jack Russell terrier with IBS. I make a slurry of the powder with boiling water and let it cool and gel. The dog then gets about a tablespoon per day. She used to get episodes of abdominal pain and loud digestive noises every few weeks but she hasn't had one in months since starting on the slippery elm.

excellent for stomach acid relief in CRF cats

I use 1/4 tsp (375mg) of Slippery Elm Bark Powder daily (SEB) for my chronic renal insufficient cat to help sooth his acidy stomach due to high BUN levels. I use it in addition to pepcid but never at the same time. In fact I never use SEB an hour before or an hour after the administration of other medications as it may interfere with absorption due to the mucilage effect. I find that it is palatable mixed in a bit of pure 100% meat ,no additive baby food or mixed well in a little canned cat food gravy. It can be gel capped as well. It seems to work for him and helps him eat more. This is a terrific product with a wide variety of benefits and worth doing some research on.I would not hesitate to do research on SEB and then ordering through thriving pets. This is a great value for one pound considering it is $8.79 for four ounces at my local health food store, and I have had nothing but positive experiences doing business with this company whether it be answering questions or placing and receiving orders promptly.

wonderful for IBS & constipation

Many years ago a woman told me of how her husband used slippery elm for his IBS problem. When it worked well for him she tried it for her kitty and it worked for him too! At that time my kitty Godfrey had IBS and was on steroids. They weren't helping much and he was miserable. I decided to give the slippery elm a try and it worked so well he was able to stop his steroids with the vet's permission. I was happy he could be comfortable with no chance of side effects. I put 1/4 teaspoon in his food and he gobbled it right up. It can be mixed with canned or sprinkled on dry food, or made into a slurry to syringe into the mouth. My elderly cat was diagnosed with chronic constipation and the beginning of renal problems two and a half years ago. The vet offered medication but I decided to try the slippery elm for him knowing that it's a good fiber source. It worked perfectly! Since he's a tiny cat I would add 1/4 tsp to his Wellness canned food every morning. It worked! No more problems.
