The Terumo 23 gauge needles are the needles of choice for administering sub-cutaneous fluids to small cats and dogs under 5 pounds or to patients that are very sensitive to the needle poke. My drama-major cat is less dramatic with the 23g, which was the goal as I went from an 18g Monoject from the vets to these. Though they can be agonizingly slow for me as I want to get his fluids done quickly, it's about his comfort not mine! Terumo makes super sharp needles (ask me how I know). Excellent customer service with ThrivingPets. I will not hesitate to buy from them again.
I have a petite senior cat who is very sensitive getting stuck for sub que fluids. The smaller needle and slower flow works better for her.

Ordered 23g. Ended up being too small to deliver Sub Q fluids. Need a size 20g. Unfortunately they are out of stock.
I used both the 25 and 26 gauge needles on my cat Fred. I went thru every size starting at 20 to smaller and smaller sizes. The vets use 18 or 20 gauge which is a humongous skin-gougin needle. If your cat finds the fluids unpleasant, it could be that all you need is a simple needle change. With the smallest needles, kitty doesn't feel the needle going in and also the water is dispersed in a smaller quantity more slowly so it's a MUCH BETTER experience for kitty. My cat Fred purred while I was giving them to him. I believe the smaller amount of fluid also was likely warmer as it went in because his body temperature could heat it more easily. ALSO, he NEVER got those big clumps of water under his skin.The vet will tell you that these are too small and too slow, but they are NOT. If you give 100 ml it may take an extra 10 minutes, but other than that just a few minutes extra and if it's better for kitty, why not?The 25 and 26 gauge have a nice small needle so kitty should not feel it going in the skin, and also, the water will be dispersed in a smaller amount and more slowly, so she should not get that big bulge that happens, also the water may warm up a bit easier because it's not gushing in. This should be especially nice during winter months.
